Liebster Award Nomination

A few weeks back I was nominated by Alexis from Adventurous Alexis for the Liebster Award!

If you don’t know what this is about, let me explain: The Liebster Award is an award from bloggers for bloggers, to recognize bloggers who are new in the blogosphere and help them get noticed. It’s a lovely thing to do and help out your fellow bloggers, so I was very proud to be nominated by Alexis for this award!

(For those of you wondering about the name of this award: “Liebster” is a German word for favorite, so the Liebster Award goes to your favorite bloggers!)

So what is the Liebster Award and how does it work?

The Liebster award is like a chain mail, which means once you’re nominated you have to pay it forward as well and nominate others. The Liebster Award can be circulated in every blogging niche, so it’s not exclusive to the travel blogging sphere. It consists of a number of questions that the nominated person will answer, which will tell the readers more about the blogger. Then, it’s the nominated blogger’s turn to nominate a number of other bloggers that he or she thinks deserve some recognition in the blogosphere and have them answer some questions as well. So far so good? Let’s go then!

1. Who inspires you?

Strong women in general 🙂 I’ve met quite a number of them in my life and I admire them for getting through all kinds of hardships in life but they still manage to be positive and some of them have made themselves impressive careers.

2. What do you do to combat any of the negative sides of travelling?

Take a deep breath first, before I do anything at all! Doesn’t pay to get all upset and start ranting or complaining, this won’t get any problems solved for me. So I take a deep breath first and then force a smile on my face, even though I might not feel like smiling. But as soon as it’s on my face, I will feel better and have the confidence that everything will turn to my advantage eventually. (Some of my friends have mentioned that I’m a compulsive optimist. I can’t help it.)

3. How do you plan your trips, if at all?

Oh I love the planning part before traveling! Skyscanner is my favorite website for finding the most comfortable and affordable flights, Airbnb for finding great accommodations and I will research transportation possibilities in every city that I’m planning to visit. Also, if I am planning a road trip, I will use Rome 2 Rio to find the best routes and transportations.

Also, I am a huge fan of the Lonely Planet Lonely Planet travel guides, I’ve been using them for years and I especially like them because they will not only list the most major sightseeing spots but will also tell you about some really nice hidden gems.

4. If you could pack up everything you own and move right at this very moment where would you move to?

I would go back to Japan, maybe Okinawa! I love the mix of traditional Japanese culture mixed with tropical culture as well, it’s just so curious! And, of course, the beaches there…

5. What song do you listen to most on the road?

I don’t have one particular song that I listen to the most, because according to my mood I will listen to pop, rock, classical, etc.

6. What is your favourite app on your phone/tablet/etc?

Ooooh that is really difficult!! I’m quite a nerd and always trying out a new app or game on my iPhone. I think as for games it’s definitely Plants vs. Zombies 2, I play it every day! And I’ve been playing it for years now! Other than games, my favorite apps would probably be Netflix or FitStar Yoga!

7. Which blogs do you check daily?

There is a blog by a German lady called Um 180 Grad, which is aimed at helping women getting their careers started in self-employment. It’s my favorite blog as it’s incredibly honest and gives a lot of insights. She started out as a travel blogger, too! You can find her blog at Pink Compass, but it’s in German.

8. Fill in the blank: ____ and Chill.

Take a deep breath and chiiiiiiill…

9. Which blog post are you most proud of?

My favorite blog post is {A Visit to the Infamous Alcatraz}, because it was such an intense experience. It’s an amazing place, filled with so many stories.

10. What are your top 3 items on your bucket list that are not related to travel?

Hmmm… not related to travel?

  1. Spend an entire week in bed or on the couch surrounded with books!
  2. Go shopping without looking at the price tags!
  3. I want to visit a cat café! (Which is kinda suicidal, as I’m highly allergic to cats… But I love them! Life can be so unfair…)

11. What luxury item do you bring on your travels? Why?

My Michael Kors bag. It’s just the right size and style, so I can wear it to any occasion (except for hiking).

And now?

I hope you enjoyed my answers! Once again, I’d like to thank Alexis for nominating me for this award!

And now to my nominees:

  1. Susanna from Wandering Chocobo
  2. Stephanie from Ginger on the Go
