Have you ever played a Live Escape game? A friend of mine is a great fan of those games, almost every place he travels to, he goes and plays one. He’s asked me to several times to join him as well, but I just didn’t have the time to do it … until I was invited by Nadezda from the Fluchtweg Hamburg team to try out a room. Of course, I couldn’t say no to this! Along with Mary from GlobalMary and Ria from Ria On Tour, I went to get myself locked into a room by strangers.
So what is a Live Escape game? Basically, you get locked into a room and you have to solve puzzles within a certain time frame to escape the room. Sounds easy? Depend on the puzzles, though. If you can’t escape the room within the given time frame, catastrophe will happen.
The masterminds behind Fluchtweg Hamburg have put a lot of effort and passion into creating their rooms. The puzzles are created with much detail and you can tell that a lot of love has gone into creating this. The rooms are located in St. Pauli, close to the Millerntor stadium. It’s very unspectacular, rather plain, from the outside and I almost didn’t find the entrance. Once inside, you’ll be welcomed warmly by the team who will lead you through the short introduction of each room. If you’re new to Live Escape games (like me!), don’t worry, they will explain everything you need to know.
Hotel Old Vegas
This room (as the name might give away) is located in Las Vegas and you have to solve the puzzles to escape the room before something terrible will happen to you. You have one hour to escape the room, so do your best!
This time, the story takes place in a spaceship in outer space and it’s your mission to save everyone on earth! With a starting situation this exciting, you’ll be sure to have lots of fun in this room. The puzzles in this room are more challenging than in Hotel Old Vegas. So if you’re new to Live Escape games, you should maybe consider starting with Hotel Old Vegas first.
I will not go into the details of the rooms since it would spoil too much. Just let me tell you that both rooms come up with some really cool puzzles to solve and it can get very exciting during one hour. Both rooms are really great and a lot of fun to solve. The insides of each room are in stark contrast to the entrance, with so much love for details and challenging puzzles.
You will be asked to leave your phones outside the rooms and the team will keep them safe. This makes a lot of sense since in each room you only get one hour to escape. Also, you really shouldn’t check how many Instagram likes you’ve received on your last picture you posted. So, leave your phones outside!
