If you travel a lot or are a long-term traveler, then you might know this dilemma: There is so much to see and so many delicious things to discover, that sometimes your health (and maybe also your figure) might suffer from traveling. Airplane food, while it has been improved a lot over the recent years, is still not the best and healthiest option you can get while traveling. For me, traveling is a way to relax and explore and that means eating all of the good stuff that I can get my hands on. Unfortunately, that also means since I have reached my 30s, it gets harder and harder every year to stay healthy and maintain my weight with that kind of behavior.
Staying fit while being on the road doesn’t take that much! I understand that working out on your vacation might not sound very appealing, but there are lots of apps out there that will help you work out for just a couple of minutes. And honestly, investing a few minutes a day in your health doesn’t sound too bad, right?
One of my favorite apps for staying fit is the Nike Training Club app. I’ve been using it for years and while I have not been very consistent in using it, it’s still one of my most used fitness apps and, in my opinion, one of the best free apps available.
Once you download the app, you can search from 100+ workouts with different levels, intensities and duration. There are workouts for the entire body and some focusing on body parts like your core, legs, etc. The workouts themselves are great for a focused workout, but one feature of the Nike Training Club app tops all the others that I’ve tried out.
Instead of choosing from single workouts every time, you can create a plan to reach your fitness goal (getting leaner, fitter, lose weight, etc.). The plan duration will be a couple of weeks, depending on your fitness goal I guess. You can choose your fitness level, your equipment and even the starting day of your new fitness plan. If you like running, you can even incorporate your running either in the activities or connect your Nike Training Club app to the Nike+ running app.
I’ve done a few plans before and they really do work because you will be scheduled enough rest days in between your workouts to make sure your body gets to rest.
While a lot of the workouts are using equipment, there are just as many with no or minimal equipment (like a mat or dumbbells). If you don’t carry your dumbbells with you (who actually does that?), you can just fill two water bottles with water and there you go! The workouts usually don’t take up much space either, so you can do it in your hotel room (or at the beach!).
And there are no hidden costs here. You don’t have to pay to use the workouts or create a plan (but creating a free account would be advisable).
